The Animals of Tiny Paws

River I found River all alone at only 4 weeks of age in downtown Kingsport. She is growing slowly, but the healthier she gets, the faster she grows.	Poppy. Poppy was very abused as a kitten. She was held up by her paws and shot at with a BB gun. She was also thrown with force. She is our newest member at only 3 months old.	Reggie Reggie was born with deformities of his front paws. He is able to walk, although, carefully. His pupils do not constrict as they should with may indicate underlying disease.
Reese Reese is diabetic, blind, epileptic and has an unusually slow heart rate.She requires insulin twice daily as well as medication for her epilepsy. She is also on a prescription diet for her diabetes.	Charlie Charlie is a pomeranian that came to Tiny Paws because he is diabetic. His diabetes was regulated, but he went into a sudden diabetic crisis and we worried he wouldn't make it. Thankfully he did, and is doing well. He requires daily insulin and is on a prescription food.	Bear Bear was one of 23 dogs rescued from a hoarder. The dogs were in horrid condition and covered in urine, feces, and fleas. Not only did all the animals have respiratory problems but skin infections, allergies and hair loss. He has some behavioral problems as a result of his experience. He was recently diagnosed with canine cognitive dysfunction or dementia. He is on medication to help with that condition.
Pating (pa-TING) Pating was rescued from a Chinese Crested/Chihuahua puppy mill. She was kept in a cage except for breeding. She had never had any vaccines or even a nail trim. Until she came to Tiny Paws, she never had a name.	Jeffery Jeffery, along with several other dogs were taken by the authorities in an animal cruelty case. He was covered in fleas and mats. His left hip was dislocated a long time ago, and not treated,so the joint fused to bone above his hip socket. He also had evidence of an untreated broken knee that results in very severe arthritis. Thanks to excellent vet care, Jeffery's quality of life has improved. He is on two pain medications as well as a thyroid medication for hypothroidism.	Lulu Lulu was a pregnant foster who had 5 puppies while here at Tiny Paws. She was an aggressive fear biter, so she remained at our sanctuary instead of going to rescue in PA.
Chewy Chewy is only 3 years old but has already experienced severe cruelty. in addition to being starved, he has a dislocated spine and pelvis, most likely from being kicked. Since the injury is old, it cannot be repaired. Although he can walk, he can't jump or wag his tail. He also has difficulty controlling his urination and defecation. He requires prescription food to prevent urinary problems.	Chico Chico suffered from severe glaucoma and had to have his eyes removed to stop the severe pain and pressure. He is highly functional having memorized the layout of the house, the yard, and other places. Chico has epilepsy and skin allergies and is on medication for both.	Goldie Goldie spent the first part of her life as a puppy and breeder in a puppy mill. Goldie lost her left eye to severe glaucoma and now is mostly blind from a cataract in the right eye. She is also losing her hearing, but she still has an excellent quality of life. She is on a prescription food to prevent frequent urinary problems.
Panda Panda was born with a micro-trachea making it difficult to breathe properly. He has still lived a full life with medication. He must maintain a good weight to avoid additional pressure being placed on his airways. He has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and is losing his sight as well. He now experiences syncope (passes out) because oxygen sometimes has trouble reaching the brain. He still maintains a good quality of life and is very active.	Scrappy Scrappy came to us to avoid being euthanized for parvo. He has had to have several cancerous growths removed from his rectum. He also has a high grade heart murmur, seizures, and severe back pain. He is on medication to give him a good quality of life.	Precious Half Pint Precious is a 9 year old chihuahua that came to us with 2 very large mammary tumors and minimal vet care. She has had to have several surgeries to address her physical problems.
Teddy Teddy was abandoned by his previous owner and left completely heartbroken. Over time, he gained the confidence to become the leader of the pack. He leads the pack in a daily howl which brings peace to them all.	Brody Brody was found as a stray. He was terrified of hands and always expected to be punished. Getting him to eat was a chore that took patience and experimentation. After living with the pack, he learned to eat well and regularly. After a lot of work, he now enjoys being petted and held.	Athena Athena and Onyx came back to Tiny Paws after their adopter and subsequent owners gave them away. They lived in 3 homes in one year. By chance, we saw both were for sale, and bought them both for $100 to get them back home. Both were traumatized and very frightened and glad to be home.
Onyx Onyx came from a puppy mill but was friendly and adoptable. She was adopted with Athena into the same home. The new pet parents did not follow the adoption contract but gave both girls away. We were lucky to get them back home. We promised that they would never leave Tiny Paws again.	Elsie Elsie is deaf, asthmatic and has an enlarged heart. Because of her medical conditions, she has remained the size of a 6-8 month old kitten. She will have to take medication the rest of her life to control her asthma. She is smaller than most cats because of her medical conditions. She is very comfortable with the dogs and other animals	Jerry Jerry was hospitalized with an unknown illness and injury. After a week of treatment, he survived. He had a set back earlier this year but has since recovered. He is on prescription food to prevent bladder stones.
Tigger Tigger was found as a kitten with a broken pelvis and was scheduled to be euthanized. Instead, he was put in a cast and brought to Tiny Paws. Today, he is able to walk normally. When his best friend Mocha the cat died, he went into a severe depression. It has taken him several years to heal and make friends again. He now has severe arthritis as a result of his earlier injury. He is on pain meds as needed.	Willow Willow was found dodging cars at 4 weeks old. She was raised by the chihuahuas here at Tiny Paws, but was fearful of leaving their room. Over time, she has gained more confidence and now explores the house daily. She is fearful of humans and will only let one caretaker touch her. She was recently treated for a severe upper respiratory infection that required confinement and medication.	TJ TJ came to our window as a kitten during a rain storm crying for food and shelter. In his adult years, he has suffered from urinary stones and requires a prescription diet to prevent more.
Lynx Lynx walked through the cat door and moved in. We could not locate her owners, so we have honored her wish to live here.	Maisey Maisey has a permanent head tilt and was very ill when first dropped of at our vet. Even thought she is only about a year old, she was in liver failure. Thankfully, she recovered. She was very uncomfortable with the other cats so we came up with a unique solution.	Lilly Lilly, Guapo, and Pogi came to Tiny Paws as young kittens to help Maisey adjust to being with other cats. Lilly is quiet, but friendly and enjoys sitting in the window.
Pogi Pogi, Lilly, and Guapo came as tiny kittens to help Maisey adjust to being around other cats. It worked. Pogi is very adventurous and looks up to TJ.	Guapo Guapo, Pogi, and Lilly came to Tiny Paws as tiny kittens to help Maisey adjust to being around other cats. Guapo is a huge but very friendly boy.	Nutmeg Nutmeg is blind in one eye but functions very well in spite of it. She is very adventurous and a loner, but once she likes you, she is very friendly.
Oak Lee and Pocket Oaklee and Pocket were in line to be a snake's supper, so I adopted them and brought them to Tiny Paws. Since they are male and female they are kept separate from each other, but their cages are close enough to interact.	Joey and Leo Joey and Leo are Zebra Finches and their chirps make everyday a little better.	The Hens Our hens at the sanctuary are considered pets and will not be culled when they stop laying. They will live their natural life in comfort. They are now 4 years old. One of the hens is in heart failure but still maintains a good quality of life.
